Guinée : un nouveau-né retrouvé vivant dans les toilettes d’une concession à Kankan
A scene of horror and shock unfolded in Kankan. A baby girl was found alive in the toilet of a family compound in the Senkenfara 3 neighborhood of Kankan. The incident occurred early in the morning, around 7:00 AM, sparking outrage and dismay among residents.
According to testimonies gathered on site, it was the wife of Amara Kaba, a driver at the CNTG station, who first heard the baby crying.
“My wife was going to take a shower when she heard cries. She asked me for a torch to check. When I went to look, I saw the baby in the toilet,” said Amara Kaba.
Alerted, the neighbors mobilized to save the child.
“We brought a child down into the shower to retrieve the baby. With the support of the representative of the neighborhood chief, we immediately took her to the health center. This is the first time such an event has occurred here,” added Mr. Kaba.
Having been informed of the situation, the head of the Senkenfara 3 district, Abdourahmane Keita, also reacted without delay.
“I was at work when my sector chief informed me of the discovery. After retrieving the baby and washing it, I immediately alerted the mayor. The child was first taken to the Senkenfara health center before being transferred to the regional hospital,” he explained.
On site, the neighborhood chief indicated that the baby's health condition remains critical.
"The baby is currently in surgery and under strict medical supervision, as his condition is worrying. Blood was flowing from his nose," he said.
Visibly moved, Fanta Kourouma, a shopkeeper, testifies that she washed the baby after its rescue.
"It was my little sister who came to tell me that a baby was crying in the shower. My sister's husband broke the slab and a child came down to get it. I was entrusted with it to wash. I saw injuries on its stomach and blood from its nose," she explained.
For his part, the sector chief, Siaka Camara, assured that the local authorities are fully mobilized.
“We have alerted the neighborhood chief and we plan to conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns to prevent this kind of tragedy. For the moment, the baby’s parents have not yet been identified,” he said.
Present at the child's bedside, Ms. Kourani Konaté, an executive at the Prefectural Directorate of Social Action, Women's Promotion, Childhood and Vulnerable Persons of Kankan, did not hide her indignation.
“What is currently happening in Kankan is very worrying. This is the fourth case of this kind that we have recorded. Abandoning a baby in a toilet is particularly shocking. We ask women to entrust their children to trusted structures or people, instead of throwing them away,” she said.
She also announced that legal action will be taken if the mother is found.
"If this woman is identified, she will be brought to justice. After medical treatment, the baby will be temporarily entrusted to the woman who found it, before the state takes over from Monday," she specified.
An investigation has been launched to identify the perpetrator of this act. In the Senkenfara 3 neighborhood, emotions remain high and the population unanimously condemns this inhumane tragedy.
