Patrice Talon has just four days left as head of state of Benin. The current president of the Republic will officially leave office on Sunday, May 24, 2026. He will hand over the keys to the Marina Palace to his successor, Romuald Wadagni, who will be sworn in the same day at the Cotonou Conference Center.
Time to say goodbye to Talon
According to the official program of the event, relayed by local media, everything will begin in the morning. Patrice Talon will be the first to arrive at the Presidential Palace. He will deliver a short speech around 10:15 a.m. before meeting with Romuald Wadagni for a one-on-one interview of about fifteen minutes.
The former cotton magnate will then leave the presidential building. Mr. Wadagni, the new head of state, will return to his offices. Shortly before 11:00 AM, he will leave the presidential palace for the Palais des Congrès.
6000 guests expected at the inauguration ceremony
The special hearing of the Constitutional Court will be held here. Romuald Wadagni will then be sworn in, reciting the oath. The President of the Constitutional Court, Dorothée Sossa, will also receive her oath. This solemn moment marks the official assumption of office by the President.
The new occupant of the Marina will then receive the Grand Collar of Grand Master of the National Order of Benin from Vice-President Mariam Chabi Talata Zimè. 6,000 guests are expected at this investiture ceremony.
