Kemi Seba arrêté en Afrique du Sud : La réaction du procureur spécial de la CRIET au Bénin
In a press release issued on Monday, April 20, 2026, the special prosecutor of the Court for the Repression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET), Mario Mètonou, informed the public that "Capo Chichi Stellio Gilles Robert, alias 'Kemi Seba', was arrested in Pretoria, South Africa" on April 13, 2026. As the individual is a Beninese national and subject to two arrest warrants issued by the CRIET, the South African judicial authorities were contacted to arrest him, stated Prosecutor Mètonou.
"An essentially legal procedure"
This arrest warrant aims to secure the detention of Kemi Seba in South Africa, for offences committed in Benin, pending the formalization of an extradition request to Benin.
The extradition request will be sent imminently, assures Mario Mètonou. He says he is "currently" preparing it.
The black robe also clarified in its press statement that this is "an essentially judicial procedure, prepared, transmitted and examined by the judicial authorities of the requesting State and the requested State. The political authorities only intervene at this stage for the transmission of requests through diplomatic channels".
Apology for crime, money laundering
It should be noted that the first arrest warrant issued against Kemi Seba dates from June 13, 2025 and "concerns money laundering. The second, dated December 12, 2025, concerns acts of glorifying crime as well as inciting hatred and violence."
