Le général Tiani à Tebboune : « Aucun Algérien ne saurait comprendre que l’Algérie prête son territoire pour agresser un pays africain »
Nigerien President Abdourahmane Tiani, who has been visiting Algeria since Sunday, was received yesterday, Monday, January 16, by his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the Presidential Palace. The two men held a private meeting, which was followed by a joint statement to the press.
The Nigerien president praised the "highest Algerian authorities who, despite the vain attempts of certain powers with neo-colonialist overtones and of remotely controlled and manipulated international and sub-regional organizations, have shown solidarity with the Nigerien people after the events of July 26, 2023."
"A power that, for more than a century, inflicted unspeakable suffering on the valiant Algerian people."
For the head of the military in power in Niamey, this Algerian stance in favor of "respecting the sovereignty of Niger and its internal political choices honors Algeria, its government and its people."
He believes that "no Algerian, no African, could (for that matter) understand why Algeria would lend its territory to attack an African country, especially when it is the same power that has, for more than a century, inflicted unspeakable suffering on the valiant Algerian people."
It is worth recalling that Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune categorically opposed an ECOWAS military intervention in Niger after the coup of July 2023. He argued that a military offensive in this neighbouring country was "a direct threat to Algeria".
In July 2025, the statesman even revealed that he had refused to participate in a "military operation" aimed at freeing the ousted Nigerien president Mohamed Bazoum.
