The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, arrived in Cameroon late Saturday afternoon, February 7, 2026, to receive the good news: Senegal will host the International Congress and Exhibition of the African Water and Sanitation Association (AWSA) in February 2028. This decision was made by the Steering Committee of this continental organization that morning. It was ratified by the General Assembly that afternoon, chaired by Mr. Blaise Moussa, President, and Mr. Abdoul Niang, Vice-President for the West Africa region.

On behalf of the State of Senegal, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dieye has championed this bid since November 2024, following the announcement of Senegal's desire, through SONES, to host a congress since the last one in 1994. Under the authority of the Minister of Water and Sanitation, and with his active support, SONES responded to the call for expressions of interest from the AAEA Executive Directorate in November 2025. Since then, other bids have been submitted, the most consistent being that of South Africa. A consensus has been reached for South Africa to host the 2030 Congress.

The Congress is the flagship event on the AAEA agenda. It is held every two years. Combined with an international exhibition, the congress allows water companies, technical and financial partners, and equipment and service providers to develop technical solutions and build relationships.

The African Water and Sanitation Association

The AAEA was created in 1970 as the African Union of Water Distributors (UADE). The idea behind its creation was to have an organization that would unite water companies to support stakeholders in terms of training, mastery of best practices, improved service to users, and so on. Today, the AAEA explores key themes: skills development and management, water quality, non-billable water, water in rural and peri-urban areas, sanitation, water and sanitation financing, databases and innovation, and climate change.

Senegal's leadership in the water sector confirmed

Having been a founding member of the AAEA (formerly UADE, then AAE) and having hosted a congress in Dakar in 1994, Senegal co-organized the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar in 2021 with the World Water Council. Senegal is a founding member of the International Organization for Water (IOW) and chairs the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) for the period 2025-2027, through its Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation. It is co-organizing the 2026 United Nations Water Conference with the United Arab Emirates in December 2026 (Abu Dhabi). Dakar recently hosted the High-Level Preparatory Meeting for this conference (January 26-27, 2026). Finally, Senegal will host the 11th Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention in 2027 in Dakar.

Pays séminaires improductifs il y a 19 heures

Les populations des pays pauvres n'ont pas accès à de l'eau potable, même de l'eau tout court souvent, des kilomètres pour aller puiser des flaques d'eau que la nature garde aux animaux adn. L'ancien Ministre de l'eau nous avait promis dans un .... séminaire ( encore) à un grand hôtel de la place de l'eau potable pour tous en 2040. Le nouveau Ministre semble être très heureux de surfer en continuité.

Si le bilan se mesure en nombre de concertations, ateliers, séminaires, rencontres, conférences, sommets, visites de terrain.... C'est lui le meilleur ministre de l'histoire du Sénégal. Le seul Hic c'est qu'on manque toujours d'eau, l'ONAS c'est une catastrophe et les inondations s'aggravent.

Ca c est le grand gueulard de son temps dans l opposition et aujourd hui le nullard au pouvoir qui multiplie les gaffes. Vous pensiez que gerer un pays c est facile. Dieu vous a mis l epreuve pour vous humilier a jamais apres avoir menti et detruit la credibilite de vos predecesseurs.
