Législatives et Communales au Bénin : Les résultats attendus au plus tard le jeudi 15 janvier
In Benin, legislative and municipal elections were held on Sunday, January 11th. More than 7 million voters were eligible to cast their ballots. According to some sources, voter turnout was low.
The authorities have not yet released the voter turnout figures. These are expected to follow the official results of this double election.
"The canteens haven't arrived yet."
In a statement released on Monday, January 12, Constitutional Court President Dorothée Sossa announced that the results would be available no later than Thursday, January 15. "We are working in tandem with the National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA). CENA sends us the ballot boxes, and it is from that point that we begin the counting process. We are ready to open the envelopes. Everyone here is ready. The ballot boxes haven't arrived yet. In any case, we won't waste any time. If we had received the first boxes yesterday, we should have something concrete by Wednesday at the latest. It won't go beyond Thursday," Mr. Sossa stated. It should be noted that five parties were competing in these legislative elections.
These are the Republican Bloc (BR), the Progressive Union for Renewal (UPR), the Movement of Committed Elites for the Emancipation of Benin (Moele-Benin), the Cauris Forces for an Emerging Benin (FCBE), and the Democrats. Regarding the municipal elections, the Electoral Commission validated only three parties: the BR, the UPR, and the FCBE.
