Mbour: La BR de Saly saisit 150 kg de chanvre indien en provenance de la Gambie, le propriétaire arrêté
The Saly Research Brigade (BR), under the Mbour gendarmerie company, dealt a severe blow to cross-border crime by dismantling an international drug trafficking network. Investigators seized 150 kilograms of cannabis originating from The Gambia.
The suspect, NS, also known as Pape, aged 37 and from the commune of Ndiaganiao, works as a fisherman. He was taken into custody for conspiracy and international trafficking of Indian hemp, according to Seneweb sources.
The gendarmerie's intervention followed a tip-off regarding an international drug trafficking operation between Gambia and Senegal. Acting on this information, officers from the Saly Criminal Investigation Brigade (BR) set up a surveillance team which quickly located the traffickers' hideout.
A raid was carried out on Thursday at the Orstome ecological park in Mbour, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Investigators discovered and seized 150 kilograms of Indian hemp contained in bags carefully hidden in the bushes.
Arrested the previous day, Wednesday, December 24, 2025, NS, also known as Pape, admitted to owning the illicit goods. During his interrogation, he stated that he had transported seven packages of Indian hemp weighing a total of 350 kilograms from Bara, Gambia, to the coast of Mbour.
According to his statements, the network managed to transport 200 kilograms of drugs before being forced to hide the remaining 150 kilograms in the bushes of the Orstome ecological park in Mbour, where they were eventually discovered by the gendarmes.
