Mission de la Banque mondiale : Dr Arame Tall salue les avancées majeures du projet SENRM à Kédougou
The support mission for the Natural Resource Management Project in Senegal (SENRM) continues with a strategic stop in the Kédougou region. Following Dakar, a World Bank delegation visited Bafoundou, in the municipality of Tomboronkoto, to tour the future regional aquaculture hub. Funded to the tune of 497 million CFA francs, this infrastructure, spanning over two hectares, marks a turning point in fisheries resource management and access to economic opportunities for local communities.

A livelihood restoration strategy
The project is not limited to the future production of Nile tilapia and African catfish. Under the supervision of Dr. Arame Tall, World Bank project manager, the mission observed the effective commencement of market gardening activities for Project Affected Persons (PAPs). This initiative is part of a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) aimed at restoring and sustaining the incomes of local communities.
On the ground, a market garden area is already being developed. Arame Tall expressed her satisfaction with the successful cultivation of okra, sweet potatoes, and other vegetable varieties. These activities provide immediate income for the communities while awaiting the final completion of the aquaculture center. She also congratulated the SENRM teams for these concrete achievements, which are already impacting the daily lives of local residents.

A large-scale social and financial impact
The completion of the Bafoundou aquaculture hub promises to transform the area's economic structure. Once fully operational, the infrastructure will include several feed production modules, generating an estimated annual revenue of 240 million CFA francs. Beyond the figures, social impact is a key priority for the World Bank: the site anticipates the local recruitment of 290 people, thus meeting the institution's employment targets.

The mayor of Tomboronkoto, Nfally Camara, who was present during the visit, welcomed the selection of his municipality to host these major investments. This field mission took place in the presence of Papa Namsa Keita, coordinator of SENRM Fisheries, and Ndeye Coura Mbaye Diop, coordinator of SENRM Environment, demonstrating the integrated approach of this nationwide program.
