This is a rather rare occurrence. The Emir of Kano, a highly respected figure in Nigeria, returned to university this week. According to "The Cable," which reported the news, Muhammadu Sanusi II began taking law courses at Northwest University on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Dressed in a long black robe and a white turban, he sat quietly among the second-year law students at the institution.

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria

If all goes well, Muhammadu Sanusi II should obtain an LLB (law degree) in common law and in Sharia law next year.

The university stated that her admission was a recognition of her extensive experience in governance, economics, and public service.

The emir was governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 to 2014. He holds a doctorate.
