Nigeria : Tinubu nomme un ex-patron des armées au poste de ministre de la défense
Nigeria has a new Minister of Defence. His name is Christopher Musa. A well-known figure in the country. Until the end of October, he held the position of Chief of Defence Staff, the equivalent of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
He had been dismissed from his post and retired by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His appointment, announced yesterday, Tuesday, by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, proves that he still enjoys the confidence of the president.
Repeated kidnappings
In a letter to the Senate, Tinubu expressed his confidence in General Musa's ability to lead the Ministry of Defense and further strengthen Nigeria's security architecture. The Sokoto native's predecessor, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, resigned last Monday, citing health problems.
Nigeria is currently facing growing insecurity. Several kidnappings carried out by terrorist groups and armed bandits have been reported in the country in recent weeks.
