Nigeria : Une influenceuse perd la vie après une chirurgie BBL ratée

She just wanted to feel beautiful. Elena Jessica, a TikTok influencer with thousands of followers in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, died in early March 2026, weeks after what was supposed to be a simple cosmetic surgery procedure. Her death sent shockwaves across social media. And a video of her crying, filmed during her treatment, circulated widely after the announcement of her passing.

An operation that changed everything

On February 6, 2026, Elena Jessica entered the Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery clinic in Ikoyi, Lagos, for her second BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift). It wasn't her first time under the knife. But this time, things didn't go as planned.

Two days after the procedure, she experienced severe pain. Her condition deteriorated rapidly. Doctors transfused her with five units of blood. On February 13, she underwent emergency decompression surgery. It was at this point that the diagnosis was made: sepsis, a serious infection that attacks the entire body. Her condition worsened further. And in early March, Elena passed away.

What few people know is that Elena was initially turned away by another clinic, Indigo. The reason given? Her skin was deemed too fragile. She then turned to Cynosure. A choice that changed the course of her life.

A family that sacrificed everything

In the weeks following the operation, her family struggled tirelessly. To pay for the medical care, her relatives sold belongings. The total bill reached 45 million Nigerian naira. Her friend Favour had tried to dissuade her before the operation. She learned of her death via WhatsApp.

The video that broke hearts

After the announcement of her death, a video began circulating widely on TikTok and Instagram. It shows Elena lying down, crying, while receiving medical treatment. She is clearly in pain. This video touched millions of people and reignited a difficult debate: the real risks of these procedures, the lack of regulation in the industry, and the pressure social media exerts on women's bodies.

She just wanted to feel beautiful. She paid for that desire with her life. Sources: Legit.ng, Premium Times, Tuko.co.ke.
