Nigéria/Drame familial à Abuja : il tue sa mère pour financer son départ au Canada
An act of unprecedented violence has shaken the Nigerian capital. A young man named Musa has been detained, suspected of having killed his own mother, Nana, after a violent argument over an inheritance.
The motive: 40 million naira and a dream of exile
The conflict reportedly stems from a sum of 40 million naira (approximately 23,000 euros), bequeathed by the family's deceased father. Musa wanted to use this money to settle in Canada.
However, his mother strongly opposed this project. She justified her refusal with several worrying reasons concerning her son:
A blatant lack of maturity.
Excessive spending habits.
Suspicions of drug use.
Two days of cohabitation with the corpse
The tragedy took a horrific turn on Monday evening. After killing his mother, the suspect only temporarily disappeared from his daily life. For nearly 48 hours, he continued living normally, even using the victim's vehicle for transportation and associating with his relatives as if nothing had happened, while his mother's body lay in his bedroom.
An arrest triggered by the smell
The crime was finally discovered the following Wednesday:
The alert: Neighbors, bothered by an increasingly strong smell of decomposition, alerted the authorities.
The ambush: Police placed the residence under surveillance after noticing the suspect's absence.
The arrest: Musa was picked up by law enforcement as he was returning home driving the deceased woman's car.
Status of the investigation: The suspect has been transferred to the Department of State Services (DSS). Nana, described by those close to her as a very pious woman, was buried at the Grand National Mosque in Abuja.
