Oligui Nguéma, président du Gabon : Notre pays « ne peut plus continuer à être un puits dont on extrait tout sans… »
August 30, 2023 - August 30, 2025. It has been two years since General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma seized power in Gabon in a military coup. This putsch has since been presented as a liberation coup. The country is therefore celebrating this Saturday, August 30, 2025, the second edition of "Liberation Day."
The day before, that is to say, yesterday Friday, Oligui Nguéma, addressed his compatriots from Tchibanga, a town located on the banks of the Nyanga River, in the department of Mougoutsi (South of the country).
“From now on we must transform our wood into furniture, our oil into refined fuel…”
In his speech, the leader emphasized economic sovereignty as an essential pillar of national independence. "Gabon can no longer continue to be an endless well from which everything is extracted without any real benefit to the Gabonese people. From now on, we must transform our wood into furniture, our oil into refined fuel, our ores into precious metals and alloys, our gold into finished jewelry, our cocoa into chocolate, our marble into tiles, and our potash into fertilizer," declared Oligui Nguéma.
For him, Libreville will no longer be an exporter of raw materials, but a producer of transformed wealth.
"In this dynamic, production sharing will become a strategic lever, which will guarantee Gabon a fair and equitable share of the exploitation of its resources. To all those who accept this principle, the doors of Gabon will be wide open," assured the president.
