Opération de la gendarmerie : 44 migrants interceptés à Foundiougne, un disparu en mer
The Foundiougne territorial brigade conducted an operation on Thursday, November 27, 2025, following a report of a gathering of individuals attempting irregular migration in the village of Félane, located in the Djilor district. The gendarmes went to the forest on the Mboro peninsula at 1:50 p.m., where the group had taken refuge. They apprehended 44 individuals attempting irregular migration, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
The group included 22 Gambians, half of those apprehended . Fifteen Senegalese were part of the convoy. Three Nigeriens and three Bissau-Guineans were also arrested, and one Ivorian completed this group of would-be migrants.
A man reported missing after a stampede
The outcome of this operation has unfortunately been marred by tragedy. According to initial findings, a person drowned off the coast of the bolongs (tidal creeks). The drowning is believed to have occurred during a stampede as people were boarding the boat. Alerted, the Foundiougne firefighters launched a search for the body of the missing person.
Meanwhile, the 44 candidates for irregular emigration were taken to the Foundiougne territorial brigade where they are being questioned as part of the investigation opened on this matter.
