Ouganda : Le président Museveni critique les politiciens ayant célébré le trophée d’Arsenal
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday strongly criticized politicians who prefer to celebrate Arsenal's Premier League title win rather than tackle poverty in their constituencies.
Speaking before the new Parliament assembled in Kololo, he warned that he would not hesitate to dismiss ministers who did not properly supervise government programs to combat poverty.
"How can you celebrate European clubs when your people have no money?"
At the opening of the 12th parliament, Museveni projected a video of a 64-year-old woman who, he claimed, had never received a million shillings before benefiting from the revolving funds of the Parish Development Model (PDM). He then denounced the enthusiasm surrounding Arsenal's title – the Gunners' first championship in 22 years – which sparked scenes of jubilation even in the streets of Uganda, where the London club boasts one of its largest fan bases in Africa.
“Someone… one of my relatives… wrote to me asking me to go and celebrate Arsenal’s victory. Me, Yoweri Museveni? If I want to, I’ll play football, but I’m not going to party. You can love Arsenal, but first solve the problem of poverty if you’re a leader,” he said.
