Présidentielle-2026 au Bénin : La campagne électorale officiellement lancée
In Benin, Sacca Lafia, the president of the National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA), officially launched the presidential campaign on Friday, March 27, 2026. This was done through a speech at the institution's headquarters in Cotonou.
"Today we are taking the penultimate step of the republican journey which will lead us, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, to the heart of our sovereignty," said Sacca Lafia, not without recalling that this election is part of the first "general elections" in Benin.
This will be the eighth presidential election since the advent of the Democratic Renewal.
"To transform this time of competition into a sanctuary of fraternity and mutual respect "
Over the next 15 days, the candidates in the running will go out to meet the nation to unveil their societal project and solicit, in the light of transparency, the votes of some eight million voters.
Sacca Lafia urges political actors who enter the public arena to "transform this time of competition into a sanctuary of fraternity and mutual respect."
"May this campaign not be a duel of personalities, but a fruitful confrontation of ideas for the sustainable development of our common land," he wished.
"Hate speech" is prohibited, warned the head of the CENA. The presidential campaign ends on Friday, April 10, at midnight.
