Présidentielle en Guinée Bissau : Cet ancien chef d’Etat veut "faire tomber" Embalo

In Guinea-Bissau, presidential elections are scheduled to take place on November 23. As the deadline approaches, it has been revealed that former leader José Mario Vaz is a candidate.

According to Lusa, he made this announcement yesterday, Thursday, September 25, during a press conference. He was joined by Juliano Fernandes, president of the National Convergence for Liberty and Development Party (COLIDE-GB).

“Today I am back, available and ready to continue serving.”

José Mario Vaz has reportedly decided to seek the presidential seat again, after consulting with several political leaders in recent days and distancing himself from the ruling party, the Movement for Democratic Alternation (Madem G-15).

He says he is seeking a second term to continue the work he began during his first five-year term.

"Today, I am back, available and ready to continue serving and honoring the struggles, sacrifices and dreams of our people. I will always be the voice of farmers, fishermen, entrepreneurs, workers, youth, women, especially the bideiras (informal traders), who courageously support our country every day. Our country deserves lasting peace, political stability and strong institutions," Mr. Vaz said during his press conference.

The former leader's candidacy may allow him to take revenge on current President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, who defeated him in the 2019 presidential election.
