Présidentielle en Guinée : Quand Doumbouya jurait qu’il ne serait jamais candidat
In Guinea, the President of the Transition, Army General Mamadi Doumbouya, won the presidential election of December 28, 2025. The resident of the Mohamed V Palace garnered 86.72% of the votes cast. This resounding victory allows him to permanently trade his military fatigues for the famous embroidered white boubou he likes to wear at official events.
"I have been clear, and I will be clear again with you, neither I, nor any member of this Transition, will be a candidate..."
Just a few years ago, it was far from imagining that the former legionnaire would participate in the Presidential election of December 2025. He himself had dismissed this possibility during an interview given to Alain Foka.
"I have been clear, and I will be clear again with you, neither I nor any member of this Transition will be a candidate for anything," Doumbouya told the Cameroonian journalist.
He recalled that his priority was to "bring the Transition to a successful conclusion with (the participation of) all Guineans" and then to organize the municipal, legislative and presidential elections "to ensure that the president who comes after will not be there wanting to remain in office forever, because the people will never again accept the personalization of public affairs."
Clearly, in the political sphere, promises are only binding on those who believe them.
