RDC : Félix Tshisekedi evoque la possibilité d'un troisième mandat
Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi declared on May 6, 2026, that a third term as head of the Democratic Republic of Congo was not ruled out, also mentioning a possible postponement of the presidential election scheduled for 2028 due to persistent insecurity in the East of the country.
During a press conference broadcast on national television, the head of state indicated that any potential revision of the Constitution would have to be submitted to a referendum. He also stated that the violence in the provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu, marked by clashes with the M23 armed group, would complicate the organization of a credible election.
This prospect of constitutional reform continues to draw criticism from the opposition, which believes that it does not address the priorities of the Congolese people.
