Soudan: plus de 60 morts dans une attaque contre un centre de santé (OMS)
More than 60 people were killed and nearly 90 injured in Sudan, in an attack on a health facility in Darfur, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Saturday.
The UN humanitarian office in Sudan had previously stated that it was "appalled by the attack on a hospital in East Darfur yesterday (Friday), which reportedly killed dozens of people, including children, and injured even more."
The WHO reported 69 deaths and 89 injuries.
The NGO Emergency Lawyers, an independent group that documents the Sudanese conflict between the army and the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), indicated that the strike had hit the El-Daein teaching hospital.
The WHO did not specify the location, but indicated that the attack involved "heavy weapons" and affected a secondary healthcare facility, medical staff, patients, supplies and stocks.
The merciless war that has pitted former allies against each other in Sudan since 2023 has intensified in recent months with a rise in deadly drone attacks on populated residential areas, schools and hospitals.
The vast western region of Darfur is now largely in the hands of paramilitaries, while the army controls the east, center and north of Sudan.
El-Daein, the capital of East Darfur State controlled by the RSF, is regularly targeted by the army, which is trying to push the paramilitaries away from the central corridor of Sudan.
His most recent attack on the city's market earlier this month ignited barrels of oil that burned for hours.
Despite repeated condemnations from the UN, hospitals are a regular target.
Nearly three years of war in Sudan have left tens of thousands dead and caused what the UN describes as "the world's worst humanitarian crisis".
