A powerful explosion was heard on Friday, April 3, 2026, in Khartoum, the army-controlled capital of Sudan, according to an Agence France-Presse journalist and witnesses. An AFP journalist in Omdurman, a city near Khartoum on the other side of the Nile, heard the explosion coming from the center of the capital, while a witness in the city center described "a single, loud explosion" and added that he saw no signs of fire or smoke.

The authorities have not commented on this explosion, which comes after three years of war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
