UNESCO : L’Égyptien Khaled el-Enany élu nouveau directeur général
On Monday, October 6, 2025, UNESCO's Executive Board appointed Khaled el-Enany of Egypt as the organization's new Director-General for a four-year term. He succeeds Audrey Azoulay of France, whose term is coming to an end.
According to Council President Vera El Khoury Lacoeuilhe, Khaled el-Enany received 55 votes to 2 for his main rival, Congolese Firmin Edouard Matoko. Supported by the Arab League, the African Union, and several major powers, he will officially take office on November 14, following his confirmation by the General Conference scheduled for November 9 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
