The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, presided over the opening of the extraordinary session of the Pan-African Parliament in Midrand, marked by the swearing-in of the members of its 7th legislature.

Representing Évariste Ndayishimiye, the current AU chairperson, he described this meeting as a crucial moment to restore the stability, credibility and continuity of the institution.

He stressed the importance of electing a new Bureau to revitalize the work, strengthen governance, and advance the continent's priorities. The AU reaffirms its commitment to a transparent and inclusive process to consolidate the Parliament's role in serving the people of Africa.
