In Guinea-Bissau, the leader of the coup, President Horta Inta-a, was promoted to the rank of army general yesterday, Monday, February 2, 2026. This took place during a ceremony in the capital, Bissau.
In the speech delivered on the occasion, Mr. Inta-a affirmed that the coup of November 26, 2025 is not intended to persecute anyone, but to unite all Bissau-Guineans for the building of the nation.
In prison, "he will be able to reflect on his behavior."
He insisted that a culture of violence cannot become the norm in the country. "The place for a troublemaker is in a prison cell, where he can reflect on his actions," warned the commander-in-chief of Guinea-Bissau, before emphasizing once again the need for unity among the sons and daughters of the country.
