[Billet d'humour] Étudiants-Députés : des bourses de trop. Quid des 4x4 à 50 millions ?
In a country where students protest for a few banknotes while receiving more tear gas than hope, a member of parliament has found the miracle solution: reforming student grants. Yes, it's true, grants are expensive… especially when compared to the 1,300,000 CFA francs a month earned by so-called "regular" members of parliament. But hold on, let's not be logical with ourselves. Some dream of getting up early one day to collect the keys to their Prados, worth 50 million CFA francs apiece. Education is important, but good air conditioning in an SUV is vital for the nation.
And frankly, who better than our elected officials to talk about sacrifices? If you want an example of rigor, look at their legislative output. How many bills are passed in a year? The performance is such that even striking students would applaud them… if they weren't too busy running from police pickup trucks.
Yet Pastef, now the majority party in parliament, had promised a deluge of reforms. A veritable tropical downpour, let's say an avalanche of good intentions. A year later, it's more like a drought.
LGBTQ+ people? Silence. The Family Code? Silence. Applause, yes, with a lot of noise.
Yes, we can always debate student grants. But before asking young people to "make sacrifices," we could start by keeping our word. After all, promises cost nothing. Except when they're left to gather dust in drawers. Then, it's the citizens who foot the bill.
Meanwhile, the only investment that really works is the stock market… but not the students’ stock market: the MPs’ stock market.
