Réforme constitutionnelle: Mystères autour de la date du 29 juin…
On Monday, June 29, 2026, Soweto Square was the scene of a show of absolute political force. No frills, just pure strategy. While Abdou Mbow was being booed out of the National Assembly, the Pastef majority was redefining the balance between Ousmane Sonko and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Why this sudden push today? Because in politics, timing is everything. Faced with the government's hesitations and calls for endless "dialogues," the majority has taken responsibility.
Sonko said no, swept aside the government's amendments, and rushed his bill through with 129 votes. Parliament has regained control, cleanly and efficiently. But the stroke of genius is the timing. The matchstick effect! A swift action today, and the calendar will take care of extinguishing any further opposition ambitions tomorrow. Tomorrow, Tuesday? It's the Baccalaureate exam. Families are buried in philosophy notes and are anxious about the upcoming exams.
No one will take to the streets for legislation when children are playing for their future.
The day after tomorrow, Wednesday? The Lions are playing Belgium in the World Cup. The country will be in a frenzy, glued to their screens. The cheers of the opposition will be completely drowned out by the vuvuzelas.
The government acted with absolute cynicism. The Constitution was passed surreptitiously, between the pens of the Baccalaureate exam and the cleats of Sadio Mané.
The opposition is knocked out, the blow is over.
Move along!
