Sabotage des installations électriques : La Senelec tire la sonnette d’alarme et appelle à la « vigilance collective »

In a press release published on Monday, April 20, 2026, Senelec denounced a surge in acts of vandalism targeting its electrical substations across the country. Faced with these attacks, which jeopardize the energy supply and public safety, the national electricity company announced increased surveillance and appealed to citizens for assistance.

The public electricity service is under threat from repeated acts of sabotage. According to Senelec's management, several electrical substations, mainly located in remote or rapidly developing areas, have been targeted by "deliberate damage to equipment and the theft of materials." These acts of sabotage have significant consequences: they cause power outages that directly impact healthcare facilities, the local economy, and the daily lives of households.

A deadly danger for both the perpetrators and local residents.

Beyond the material losses, Senelec emphasizes that an electrical substation is a highly technical installation where any unauthorized manipulation exposes the public to extreme risks: "electrocution, fire, explosion." These acts constitute, according to the press release, a clear act of sabotage of the public service and an "endangerment of the population."

To address this situation, Senelec has already begun deploying "enhanced monitoring, control, and security measures" at its strategic sites. However, recognizing that it cannot act alone, the company is appealing to the civic responsibility of local residents and the involvement of community leaders.

The public is urged to report any suspicious activity near electrical infrastructure by calling the toll-free numbers provided: 800 00 14 14 or 800 00 00 00. As the press release strongly emphasizes: "Protecting electrical installations means protecting lives. Protecting energy means protecting Senegal."

Il faut sécuriser vos installations c'est bien possible au lieu de s'alarmer. Personne n'investit des milliards dans sa maison et la laisser à la portée de n'importe qui.
