L'heure n'est plus aux ambitions. elle est au sursaut…( Par Aly NGOUILLE SARR)
Senegal is suffering, not in silence, but in an institutional indifference that hurts more than the crisis itself.
Donors are turning away. The IMF is withholding its approval. Projects that have been underway for years are dying out due to lack of funding. NGOs that supported our most vulnerable populations have packed up and left without anyone really batting an eye. And all the while, the country is burdened with one of the heaviest debts on the continent.
This situation is not inevitable. It is the result of a government choice that prioritizes political maneuvering over economic emergencies; or rather, the choice of the regime in power to fight only for power and the privileges it confers while the people struggle for their survival.
Senegal forged its greatness in adversity. It weathered political and social storms that would have swept away less resilient nations. But the resilience our country has always demonstrated is not inexhaustible. Today, more than ever, it calls for a sincere and collective national awakening.
This resurgence is thanks to those who work tirelessly; to families who resist without complaining; to the youth who deserve a future built on solid foundations, not on quarrels that do not nourish them.
Government officials, elected representatives, economic actors, civil society—as Mayor Serigne MBOUP reminded us—the time has come to transcend partisan calculations. Stability is not a luxury reserved for times of calm. It is the essential condition for any recovery, any restoration of confidence, any possible future.
