Un match de foot se gagne sur le terrain ! (Par Amadou Tidiane Wone)
We had finished digesting the victory of the Senegalese national team at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations. Sated with emotions and joys, we had turned the page on harmful controversies and were enduring, with faith and philosophy, the disproportionate judicial treatment of the case of the young Senegalese supporters… Brothers forgive each other everything… Even and especially the unforgivable!
Above all, during this blessed month of Ramadan and Lent, our fervent and sincere prayers rose to heaven, imploring the infusion of peace into hearts and minds. The Senegalese and Moroccan nations are so intertwined spiritually, socially, and familially that the painful episode of clashes during the final match had to be closed as quickly as possible! All the goodwill of both countries was, and will remain, dedicated to this cause of reason and fraternity!
It is therefore, to say the least, strange that the CAF (Confederation of African Football) took two months to decide to reignite tensions and reopen a wound that was still healing. This decision, whose consequences could be devastating and corrosive to relations built over centuries between two nations that share so many values, will go down in history as a shameful stain on the record of those who made it. Holed up in five-star hotels at taxpayers' expense, these sports officials have blithely trampled on centuries of spiritual and familial ties, years of diplomatic and political affinity, all against a backdrop of inestimable economic stakes! This recklessness borders on irresponsibility!
Indeed, when one tries to assess the risks of unrest that could result from poorly controlled emotions fueled by a simmering, yet contained, anger among several segments of the Senegalese and Moroccan populations, one realizes that the CAF leaders are quite unaware of the dangers their decision could provoke! To put it simply…
How strange! More than two months after they themselves presented the Africa Cup of Nations trophy to our valiant team, what subterfuge do they think they can use to take it back? The cup is already etched in our hearts, in our memories. Nothing can erase the joy we felt. At best, they can only recover an inert object. As for us, we will forever cherish Sadio Mane's inspired backheel, Pape Gueye's conquering run, and that shot that led to his masterful goal! That moment is impossible to erase. We will keep intact the celebrations, the happiness of our people, and the joy of the African continent and the diaspora, which resonated as one. Unforgettable moments that a "decision" that doesn't even bring joy to the top officials of Moroccan football cannot possibly tarnish. On the contrary, this "decision" will only reinforce the feeling of a well-deserved victory...on the pitch! And there, despite a dubious arbitration, a biased security service, a perilous environment, Senegal's ties roared and triumphed!
So we'll say: "Meh!"... to everything that follows... Let's not get involved in costly and endless legal proceedings, which will only add to the stress and anger, and feed the vultures of all kinds who live off sport and its opportunities...
See you at the next World Cup, on the pitch, the only place that truly legitimizes a victory earned through the sweat of Jambaar ! Everything else is just a rearguard action by dark forces far removed from the football field...or so they say…
And then…meh!
