Ndiaganiao accueille le Festival « Musique Sérère, Musique Sacrée », un rendez-vous entre tradition et ouverture
Scheduled for December 27, 28, and 29 in Mbind Sérère, the "Serer Music, Sacred Music" Festival is poised to become a major cultural event in Ndiaganiao. Led by Jean Sène, it aims to showcase the richness of Serer culture while opening it up to other artistic expressions from Senegal and beyond.
Ndiaganiao is preparing to vibrate to the rhythm of drums, songs and ancestral dances during this unique festival which places cultural transmission and dialogue between the sacred and the profane at the heart of its program.
The festival will take place from December 27th to 29th in the authentic setting of the Mbind Sérère ecotourism camp, in partnership with the Mbind Songho hotel. Conceived as a space for sharing and encounters, the event aims to be both rooted in Serer traditions and open to outside influences.
The program will feature traditional Serer troupes presenting initiation dances, sacred songs, and ritual expressions, showcasing a rich and vibrant intangible heritage. The festival will also welcome artists from other cultural backgrounds, illustrating the organizers' commitment to promoting a diverse and culturally vibrant Senegal.
Among the announced guests are the Walu group from Kondo, specializing in Mandingo percussion, a circus troupe from Djarama Djalaw based in Toubab Dialaw and led by Mambi, as well as the artist Baba Maal, guest of honor and supporter of the festival, who notably contributed to the recording of the official anthem of the event.
The "Serer Music, Sacred Music" Festival derives its identity from the dual dimension of Serer music, both sacred and profane.
"It's a constant balance between what we respect and what we share," explains Nyamar Ndour, emphasizing that birth songs, ritual rhythms and popular dances naturally coexist in the Serer tradition.
Leading up to the festival, several cultural activities were organized as part of the "Off" program, including a celebration of the African Santa Claus, marked by the distribution of gifts to local children. A cultural caravan is also planned for December 26, as well as the Ndiaganiao Fashion Week, spearheaded by local designer Radja, whose closing show will be held in Mbind Sérère during the festival.
Beyond culture, the event is part of a local development dynamic, with the involvement of the Mbind Songho hotel, committed to education, social action and supporting cultural initiatives in Ndiaganiao.
Through this festival, Ndiaganiao aims to be a cultural crossroads where ancestral traditions, contemporary creation and openness to the world meet to celebrate the Serer and Senegalese identity in all its richness.
