Aminata Touré plaide pour l’accès des femmes et des filles à l’eau et à l’assainissement

At the high-level preparatory meeting for the United Nations Water Conference, scheduled for December 2026 in Abu Dhabi, Aminata Touré, High Representative of the Head of State and member of the Council of Leaders of the Sanitation and Water for All Initiative, chaired a side event focused on the priorities of decision-makers regarding water and sanitation. She delivered a strong plea on behalf of women and girls.

Aminata Touré used this international platform to reiterate the urgent need for equitable access to water in Africa and Senegal. In her speech, she emphasized that in many communities, women still bear the heavy burden of water collection, a daily chore that affects their health and well-being and limits girls' education.

"It is urgent that the needs of women and girls be taken into account among the priorities of decision-makers," she stressed, emphasizing the social and economic impact of this issue.
