A delegation from the World Bank was received on Tuesday by El Malick Ndiaye, the President of the National Assembly of Senegal. Discussions focused on Senegal's development priorities and prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two institutions.
According to a note from the National Assembly, Keiko Miwa, World Bank Director for Senegal, "expressed the World Bank's willingness to strengthen its cooperation with Senegal, in full alignment with the strategic orientations of Vision Senegal 2050, with a particular focus on the transport sector."
The President of the National Assembly, the note continues, welcomed the World Bank's continued support to Senegal and reaffirmed Parliament's commitment to working towards the establishment of a legislative framework conducive to the implementation of structuring projects, for the direct benefit of the population.
"On this occasion, he invited the World Bank to provide more support to the Senegalese authorities, following the transparency exercise carried out on the debt and the budget deficit, and to support the Economic and Social Recovery Plan, the first results of which already demonstrate its effectiveness," the same source reports.
The head of the legislative branch also highlighted the National Assembly's willingness to work closely with the World Bank, through the Commission on Territorial Planning and Local Authorities, in order to support Procassef.
"Finally, the President of the National Assembly reiterated the importance, for Senegal, of strengthening bilateral cooperation in order to support sustainable, inclusive and equitable growth," the text states.
