Pascal Boniface : « La souveraineté est l’arme anti-guerre »
In the hall of the Museum of Black Civilizations, Pascal Boniface captivated the audience with a reflection on the international order and the challenges of sovereignty. Addressing Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and other guests on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the international relations expert outlined the limits of power without law.
"All wars are violations of sovereignty. If we respect the sovereignty of others, there is no war," said Mr. Boniface, stressing that the sovereignty of states is not an abstract concept, but the best insurance against conflict and foreign interference.
According to the expert, Western military interventions since the beginning of the 21st century, from Afghanistan to Iraq, illustrate what he calls power versus law. "Billions have been spent in countries where the populations had asked for nothing, to impose models that were not their own. And today, the Taliban are back in Afghanistan, while Iraq still bears the scars of an illegal war," he emphasized.
He also denounced Donald Trump's policies, which he sees as a return to a unilateral and coercive worldview. According to Pascal Boniface, the slogan "Make America Great Again" reflects a desire to restore a power perceived as declining, through economic or military force, without regard for international law or the sovereignty of other nations. "Force alone never creates peace," Boniface insisted.
"To build a stable world, we need a clear political agenda that respects the law and equality between states. Each country must be able to decide its own destiny without external pressure."
Furthermore, the expert invited nations, large or small, to become aware of their sovereignty and to defend their independence, recalling that it is by respecting others that one protects peace for oneself.
