Représailles contre la CPI : Trump, le magistrat sénégalais, le compte Wave et la finale de la CAN
Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang is among the judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) targeted by US reprisals. The US offense: launching proceedings against Israeli leaders and opening an investigation into possible war crimes committed in Afghanistan by American soldiers. Those implicated, their spouses, and their children are barred from entering the United States. Their assets in the United States and held by American institutions or those linked to the country are frozen. And the list of sanctions is not exhaustive.
This is why the Senegalese magistrate has since experienced difficulties in carrying out money transfers and electronic payments. "To give you some background, when my Wave account in Senegal was blocked following the sanctions, they told me they were forced to withhold the funds I had in my account," Mame Mandiaye Niang explained in an interview published this Monday in L'Observateur. "Fortunately, it wasn't a large sum, even though it's still shocking to be sanctioned in your own country!"
The restrictions imposed by the United States deprived him of the entirety of Senegal's victory against Morocco. "I missed a good part of the Lions' final in the Africa Cup, stuck at Amsterdam airport and unable to take an Uber or pay for a taxi. This can be very frustrating," the deputy prosecutor at the ICC complained.
