Assemblée nationale : Le franc CFA et les réparations historiques au cœur des débats avec le gouvernement

Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko will appear before the National Assembly this Friday, May 22, 2026, for a session dedicated to current affairs questions addressed to the government. This parliamentary meeting will allow members of parliament to directly question the head of government and ministers on several issues considered priorities for the country.

Among the topics expected to dominate discussions is the issue of the CFA franc. According to sources close to Parliament, several members of parliament are considering questioning the Prime Minister about the delay in abandoning this currency, which was announced as a major commitment in the presidential program two years ago. This issue remains central to political debate in Senegal, where a significant portion of the public expects concrete measures to promote greater economic sovereignty.

Parliamentarians are also expected to revisit the issue of reparations related to French colonization and neocolonialism. Some elected officials hope that Senegal will adopt a more proactive stance on this subject and actively join African initiatives demanding justice and reparations for the historical injustices suffered during the colonial period.

In this context, several members of parliament intend to call on the government to continue the continental momentum initiated around the resolution put forward by Ghana on African reparations. For those who support this approach, Dakar must now move from political declarations to concrete actions in order to defend the continent's historical and economic interests.

This parliamentary session comes at a time when issues of sovereignty, economic independence, and colonial memory are increasingly prominent in Senegalese public debate and, more broadly, in West Africa. Ousmane Sonko's responses to these issues will be closely scrutinized by both members of parliament and the public.

Euskey !
