Conversely, even the slightest congestion immediately affects the price of rice, medicine, or building materials. The Autonomous Port of Dakar is a perfect example. As Senegal's main maritime gateway, it is also the economic lifeblood of Mali via the Dakar-Bamako corridor. Thanks to its transshipment capacity, it has established itself as a major logistics hub with over 30 million tons of annual traffic, providing Togo with a key diplomatic lever vis-à-vis landlocked countries like Burkina Faso and Niger.

The choice of a port corridor is therefore never solely logistical; it is strategic. High handling costs or administrative delays can cripple the competitiveness of a local industry.
