Révélations du Financial Times : Abdou Mbow interpelle Ousmane Sonko sur "vraie dette cachée" de 432 milliards
The leader of the Liberal and Democratic parliamentary group is going on the offensive. Citing revelations in the international press, MP Abdou Mbow accuses the government of financial concealment and announces a written question to the Minister of Finance.
The political climate in Senegal has been further strained by a new financial controversy. In a statement dated March 23, 2026, MP Abdou Mbow denounced the current regime's management of public finances, referring to it as a "macabre discovery of a hidden debt within our public finances."
A deposit worth 432 billion CFA francs at the heart of the debate
Based on information relayed by the Financial Times, the elected official points to a hidden financial scheme. According to him, the country has discovered a "hidden debt amounting to 650 million euros, or 432.25 billion CFA francs."
The MP vehemently denounces what he calls a lack of transparency on the part of the authorities: "This government, which raised 650 million euros through total return swaps without informing the IMF or the markets, with opaque arrangements that give lenders priority over other creditors, owes us explanations."
A "calamitous atmosphere" and a parliamentary formal notice
According to Abdou Mbow, Senegal is going through a period of extreme turbulence. He describes a country that is "drowning in the murky waters of an unprecedented economic crisis" and a government team that is "getting bogged down in the quicksand of inevitable bankruptcy."
Refusing explanations through the press, the parliamentarian is demanding a formal institutional debate. He announced that he will submit a written question to the Minister of Finance and Budget within 24 hours. The aim is to obtain "clarification on this matter [...] not during another flashy press conference, but through a proper, republican explanation to the people's representatives."
The message is addressed directly to the top of the executive branch. Abdou Mbow asserts that it is his duty to question "Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and the Minister of Finance on the issue of the 'hidden debt', the real one!"
