Sobriété énergétique : l’AEME lance une campagne nationale pour alléger la facture des ménages
The Agency for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (AEME) officially launched a special energy conservation awareness campaign on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the African Renaissance Monument. Driven by directives from the highest authorities, this initiative reflects a national commitment to strengthening universal access to electricity while encouraging responsible consumption practices. The ceremony took place in the presence of institutional stakeholders, civil society representatives, and numerous women's movements, all mobilized to make energy efficiency a driver of development.
The Minister of Energy, Petroleum, and Mines, Birame Souleye Diop, who chaired the meeting, commended the ongoing efforts of the AEME (Agency for Energy Management) and its teams. He emphasized that energy efficiency is central to Senegal's growth, but that its success absolutely requires the involvement of every citizen. According to the Minister, this collective participation is essential not only to reduce environmental impacts but also to free up energy resources for populations that do not yet have access to electricity.
Particular emphasis was placed on the central role of women in this transition. Considered key players in household management, they are called upon to become the main drivers of this behavioral change. Through initiatives led by the Bey Sa War platform, headed by Fabira Dramé, the minister urged women to carry this message within their communities. "When women carry a message, it effectively reaches the population," he stated, praising the platform's ability to mobilize people.
Finally, Birame Souleye Diop emphasized that the agency's commitment is not new. For several years, AEME has been implementing various innovative programs and awareness campaigns in the areas of energy conservation and renewable energy. "The agency didn't wait for the crisis to take action," he stressed. This launch at the African Renaissance Monument thus marks the starting point of a vast national initiative aimed at sustainably transforming Senegalese people's relationship with their energy consumption.
