Ventes de pétrole et d’or en chute : Le mois "sombre" des exportations sénégalaises
Senegal's exports have taken a hit. After a strong surge in October, reaching 688.7 billion CFA francs, they plummeted in November 2025, falling to 323.6 billion CFA francs – a drop of 53.0%.
The oil sector is at the top of the list of those in the dock. Indeed, during the month of November, the country sold only 45.5 billion CFA francs worth of oil and gas (crude hydrocarbons), compared to 215.6 billion CFA francs the previous month. This represents a massive drop of 170.1 billion CFA francs. So far, no reason has been given.
Sales of refined petroleum products also fell to 49.7 billion FCFA from 150.1 billion FCFA, representing a decline of 100.4 billion FCFA. Similarly, sales of non-monetary gold decreased to 95.9 billion FCFA from 145.5 billion FCFA.
Phosphates mitigate the fall
The negative trend was mitigated by an increase in phosphate shipments, which rose to 4.9 billion FCFA in November, compared to 0.0 billion FCFA the previous month. Mineral and chemical fertilizers also performed well, with exports valued at 3.1 billion FCFA, compared to 1.8 billion FCFA the previous month.
Compared to November 2024, exports have weakened by 28.5%. Their cumulative value at the end of November 2025 amounts to 5109.9 billion FCFA compared to 3504.7 billion FCFA for the same period in 2024. This represents an increase of 45.8%.
Imports fell to 713.3 billion FCFA, compared to 796.5 billion FCFA in October. This represents a 10.5% decrease, resulting from reduced purchases of refined petroleum products, among other things. However, an increase in imports of raw and refined sugar to 14.5 billion FCFA mitigated this decline.
The cumulative amount of imports at the end of November 2025 was 6734.3 billion FCFA compared to 6439.0 billion FCFA for the same period in 2024. This represents an increase of 4.6%.
The balance has widened by -389.7 billion
The trade balance stood at -389.7 billion FCFA in November 2025, compared to -107.8 billion FCFA the previous month. However, the cumulative trade balance for the first 11 months of 2025 reached -1,624.4 billion FCFA, compared to -2,934.3 billion FCFA for the same period in 2024.
