« 31 ans, inscrit depuis 10 ans » : Le ministre Daouda Ngom s'attaque aux responsables étudiants
The Minister of Higher Education and Research, Daouda Ngom, stirred up controversy by commenting on the profiles of certain student movement leaders. According to him, some of these leaders remain within the university system "for too long," which raises questions about the nature of their commitment.
To illustrate his point, the minister cited the example of a 31-year-old student leader who had been enrolled at the university for ten years. Through this specific case, Mr. Ngom seemed to be questioning the legitimacy of certain representatives whose academic career spans a decade, suspecting them of prioritizing activism over their studies.
Beyond the age of those in charge, the minister strongly denounced what he considers to be external political influence. According to him, some student leaders are being manipulated by political forces to destabilize campuses.
"The university is not a political arena. The future of students should not be politicized. That is why we ask them to distance themselves from the politicians who use them," the minister insisted.
Daouda Ngom is now calling for a national debate on representativeness and responsibility within the student movement, in order to ensure that demands remain strictly academic and social.
