Bignona : Les enseignants du G7 ont arpenté les rues pour dire non à la ponction sur les salaires
The G7/Bignona coordination team took to the streets this Tuesday, March 3rd, to protest the salary cuts made to teachers. Following the march, they submitted a memorandum to the prefecture.
While the march was a success, the teachers deplored the prefect's refusal to come out to receive their memorandum, proposing instead to receive some G7 leaders in his office. This invitation was rejected by Yancouba Badji and his colleagues, who criticized the authority's attitude.
"We will say this with great regret, but with great firmness. We have been in this department as leaders for over ten years. All the marches we have led here in Bignona have ended in front of the prefecture and with the prefect receiving the memorandum. This march was planned, as it was authorized by the authorities. We, the teachers, we, the unions, cannot come to the prefecture gates, expecting to hand our memorandum to the prefect of the department, who prefers to remain in his office and receive a few union representatives to deliver it to him. We, the union party, say no to that; we will not accept it," lamented the coordinator of the G7/Bignona. Before adding: "We would rather return with our memorandum than hand it to a prefect who is in his office."
Teachers also denounced the salary deductions. "Regarding the deductions, union leaders said that as long as the deductions respect the standards, we don't even make a fuss about it. However, the deductions observed are settling of scores. It's practically theft, since no criteria were respected in this deduction," Yancouba Badji fumed.
The marchers welcomed the mobilization of teachers and their determination to continue the strike until the demands put on the government's table are met.
