The World Week of Scientific Francophonie and the 19th General Assembly of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) ended this Thursday, November 6, 2025 in Dakar after four days of discussions on the challenges of higher education, research and innovation.

Five West African countries, including Senegal, participated in these meetings which aimed to promote university entrepreneurship and strengthen scientific cooperation between AUF member universities.

Presiding over the closing ceremony, the Senegalese Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Daouda Ngom, praised the quality of the work and thanked the partners present.

"Senegal is honored to have been the capital of the scientific Francophonie for four days. By hosting this meeting, we reaffirm our constant commitment to the Francophonie," he said.

The minister noted that Senegal shares the same challenges as many African countries: funding shortfall, massification of universities, unequal access, lack of infrastructure and mismatch between training and employment.

Referring to the Senegal 2050 vision, he highlighted the National Agenda for the Transformation of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (ANTESI), which aims to modernize the university system, strengthen governance, improve the alignment of training and employment, and promote research applied to the needs of the population.

The Dakar Declaration, endorsed by 18 countries in the Francophone world, marks a collective commitment to strengthening scientific diplomacy, inter-university cooperation and networking.

"Let's make the AUF our common good," concluded Daouda Ngom, calling for the construction of more inclusive, innovative universities rooted in African realities.
