Kaffrine: CFEE and BFEM are performing well, but the Baccalaureate is causing concern for the Academy Inspector

Kaffrine : CFEE et BFEM au top, mais le Baccalauréat inquiète l'Inspecteur d'académie

In Kaffrine, the Academy's annual review served as a framework for evaluation, but also for planning. Addressing administrative authorities, education stakeholders, and partners, the Academy Inspector (IA), Mamadou Niang, presented a report marked by encouraging performance in certain cycles, while acknowledging persistent challenges, particularly at the baccalaureate level and the teacher shortage.

He began by emphasizing the importance of this annual meeting. According to him, "the annual review is an important opportunity for discussion, sharing, and assessment among the Academy, the entire Academic Inspectorate, and all relevant departments." He added that it is also "a valuable opportunity to address the educational community and administrative authorities to review a year of results, a year of performance, but also a year of accountability."

Beyond simply reviewing performance, this meeting also highlights the efforts made over the past year. "It offers the community the opportunity to appreciate the human and financial resources made available to us, as well as how they have been used to produce results," explained the regional education inspector, emphasizing that the exercise also helps to outline future directions for further improving the local education system.

In terms of academic performance, the Kaffrine Academy continues to excel in several exams. "If we take the example of school exams, particularly the CFEE and the entrance exam for sixth grade, as well as the BFEM, the Kaffrine Academy is generally among the top-performing academies in the country," Mamadou Niang proudly stated.

But the picture is not entirely satisfactory. The academic official acknowledges the still weak results in the baccalaureate exam. "Regarding the baccalaureate, we note that the results remain below our expectations. Last year, they were still below 50%, therefore below the national average," he lamented, mentioning shortcomings that will need to be addressed collectively.

To reverse this trend, the Academy is relying on consultation with all stakeholders in the education system. "We intend to continue the work of dialogue and consultation with all stakeholders in order to bring ideas closer together, harmonize initiatives and allow the Academy to further improve its performance," he assured, emphasizing the need to consolidate achievements while correcting weaknesses.

Another major challenge is the lack of teachers, particularly at the middle and secondary levels. "One of the major priorities remains maintaining performance at the elementary level and improving it at the middle and secondary levels. At this level specifically, the Kaffrine Academy is facing a significant teacher shortage," the IA warned.

Faced with this situation, he appealed to the authorities for a rapid increase in teaching staff. "We are appealing for the Academy to have a sufficient number of teachers at all levels. This will allow schools to start classes on time, like everywhere else in Senegal, and to work in better conditions," he pleaded.

Despite these challenges, Mamadou Niang remains confident in the region's potential. "Under these conditions, we will truly be able to compete with other academies, evolve within the same performance dynamic, and achieve the results expected by all stakeholders in the education system," he concluded optimistically.
