La suppression de l’entrée en 6e officiellement actée
The reform is now official. The Ministry of National Education announced, in a press release dated February 25, 2026, the implementation, starting with the 2026 session, of the government directive abolishing the entrance exam for 6th grade for the 2025-2026 school year.
This decision, adopted in the Council of Ministers on October 3, 2025, provides that the orientation of students towards college will henceforth be based on the Certificate of completion of elementary studies (CFEE), the organization of which will be maintained and reorganized.
The ministry is asking academic authorities to prepare for the transition by implementing communication strategies, a system of educational support for candidates, and an assessment of the capacity of secondary schools to accommodate them. Inspectorates are also asked to plan ahead for the organization of examination centers and the mobilization of teachers.
Presented as a structural reform, the measure aims to modernize the education system, facilitate access to secondary school and strengthen equity and inclusion in compulsory schooling in Senegal.
