In recent hours, Cheikh Anta Diop University has been rocked by the banging of pots and pans. Master's students have been vehemently demanding the payment of their scholarships due to persistent delays.
At the National Assembly, on the sidelines of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko's question-and-answer session, Professor Daouda Ngom, Minister of Higher Education, refuted claims of delays and announced that scholarship payments would be made by December 5th. "There are misunderstandings surrounding the student strikes. I want to clarify that there are no delays in payment. Scholarships must be paid before December 5th. And we are working to ensure they are paid by that date," the minister stated.
However, the minister explained the real problem facing master's students, who are demanding payment of their scholarships. They want to be paid what they are owed for all the months following their enrollment, when they transitioned from their bachelor's to their master's degree. This is what's causing the problem.
