Ponctions sur les salaires : Sonko dit ses "vérités" aux enseignants grévistes et interpelle le ministre de l'Education
A few weeks ago, many teachers complained about deductions from their salaries. This Friday in Mbour, the Prime Minister addressed the issue.
“That people who have not been on strike can have deductions made, that we cannot accept. And I have given firm instructions to the Minister of Education. I told him yesterday in the Council of Ministers that “it has come to my attention that teachers, who have not been on strike, have had deductions made. Check this out for me and give these teachers what is owed to them,” he declared this Friday, during the closing ceremony of the ninth anniversary of the teachers’ movement of his party (MONEP).
"I don't see why we have to go whining everywhere..."
But the head of government took a firm stance regarding teachers who have logically suffered pay cuts due to their strike action. He explained that when a teacher exercises their legitimate right to strike, to the detriment of students, who are the innocent victims, they assume responsibility and act within the bounds of the law.
"But in the same way, when the State, under the same legal basis, says that someone who has not worked does not deserve remuneration, I don't see why we have to go whining everywhere. It is neither an offense nor a crime. It is the reciprocal exercise of the rights conferred on each party," the Prime Minister asserted.
For Ousmane Sonko, a teacher cannot go on strike for 20 days and demand their full salary. "Even as believers, we must refuse this. Because the salary we receive while staying quietly at home is an undue salary," he stated.
