Précarité menstruelle à l’UCAD : 37000 étudiantes appelées à un soutien solidaire

Menstrual health, often overlooked, is nevertheless a daily challenge for thousands of female students. In Dakar, a solidarity initiative serves as a reminder of the urgent need to address this issue.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar hosted a menstrual health awareness day on Monday, March 30, 2026, organized by the Student Association. At the heart of the discussions was the issue of equitable access to menstrual hygiene products, which remains difficult for some students in a faculty with nearly 37,000 female students.

A concrete response to persistent insecurity

Supported by partner Softcare, and in the presence of student ambassador Mame Coumba Dia, also a journalist and producer at Télé Futurs Médias (TFM), the meeting resulted in a concrete action: the distribution of sanitary napkins to students in precarious situations.

Beyond this gesture, the organizers highlighted a persistent reality: for many female students, access to menstrual products remains limited due to economic constraints, with direct repercussions on their well-being and academic progress.

This initiative follows the needs expressed by the students themselves and underlines the importance of implementing sustainable solutions for the faculty's 37,000 students.

Raising awareness and commitment to sustainable change

Present at the ceremony, Khouraichy Thiam, administrator of the Fund to Support Investment by Senegalese Abroad (FAISE), praised the significance of this initiative. A former student of UCAD, he emphasized the need to strengthen social initiatives for students, in line with the efforts of public authorities to improve their living conditions.

Beyond the distribution of kits, this day also aimed to provide a forum for discussion on a topic still surrounded by taboos. It reflects a strong commitment to promoting the dignity, health, and empowerment of female students.

Comment une étudiante doit faire appel à des structures pour la fourniture de serviettes hygiéniques ? Avec 1000 francs elle est servie .Allez plutôt dans les quartiers populaires ou les villages reculés si vraiment vous voulez aider.
