Randonnée de l’UCAD: Tour du temple du savoir au service de la santé et de la cohésion universitaire
Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar organized a large-scale hike focused on sport, well-being, and paying tribute to the institution's prominent figures. This initiative, led by the UCAD Sports Department, brought together students, faculty, administrative staff, and guests for a convivial and shared experience within the university grounds.
An initiative welcomed by the rector of UCAD, Alioune Badara Kandji. "Sport is the best medicine for health. We can feel that things are moving forward with the sports department. I congratulate you on this initiative and encourage you to continue in this direction," he declared to the participants.
For the director of sports at UCAD, Ndarao Mbengue, this hike is part of a broader vision to make sport an essential pillar of university life. "We now have an important mission regarding sports practice within the university. The rector has placed his trust in us by entrusting us with the management of sports, with the vision of making sport the third main activity after teaching and research," he explained.
Through this sports policy, the Sports Department intends to increase the number of activities available to the entire university community, from the youngest to the oldest. According to Mr. Mbengue, the goal is to promote sport as a way to combat stress, foster well-being, and strengthen social cohesion on campus.
This hike was also marked by a tribute to Tafsir Diatara, presented as a figure who profoundly influenced the university through his commitment and sense of service. "Through this friendly sporting activity, we want to pay tribute to a man whose commitment, dedication, and human qualities have left a positive mark on the university community," emphasized the director of sports.
The Sports Department also aims to develop initiatives. "Whenever we have the opportunity, we will seek to honor a prominent figure of the university so that everyone can learn about their career and appreciate their contribution to this great institution," concluded Ndarao Mbengue.
Through this new dynamic, UCAD wants to make sport a real lever for health, cohesion and university influence.
