Santé scolaire à Khombole : 567 élèves dépistés lors de journées de consultations gratuites
Health in the service of education. In Khombole, April 28 and 29, 2026, were marked by important days of free medical consultations organized for elementary school students. This initiative, jointly led by the association "Friends of Childhood School 1 of Khombole" and the Association of the 1966-1967 Class of Khombole Regional School (APEK 66/67), aims to ensure that children have the health necessary for a successful education.
According to Ngathie Diop, president of the "Friends of Childhood School 1" association, these consultations targeted first-grade students from several schools, including School 1, School 2, the Ndengler school, and a local Koranic school. The main objective is to detect early illnesses that could hinder the physical, mental, or academic development of young learners. For the organizers, the equation is simple: a sick child cannot study properly. Given the success of the initiative, extending these sessions to senior citizens is already being considered to strengthen the local health impact.
For his part, Gora Diop, president of APEK 66/67, highlighted the alumni's ongoing commitment to community development initiatives. He took the opportunity to appeal to those willing to help, emphasizing that partner support is essential for the sustainability of such social projects.
From a clinical perspective, Professor Ibrahima Diagne of Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis provided a comprehensive overview of this third edition. A total of 567 students were examined. While common ailments such as coughs, flu, sore throats, and abdominal pain dominated the statistics, more serious cases were diagnosed. Doctors identified, in particular, one case of epileptic seizure, one case of congenital heart disease, and one case of probable kidney disease. Professor Diagne assured that these children will receive specific follow-up care and referrals to specialized facilities for comprehensive treatment.
Through this medical deployment, local stakeholders in Khombole reaffirm their commitment to placing child protection at the heart of their priorities. They demonstrate that intergenerational solidarity remains a powerful driver for the development and success of young people.
