Stabilité du système scolaire, crise des valeurs : une association d'enseignants interpelle l'État et les syndicats
In the religious city of Tivaouane this weekend, the State and teachers' unions were called upon to urgently work towards the stability of the school system, but also to draw on the Tivaouane school to find a solution to the crisis of values.
This was on the occasion of the 2026 edition of the annual Ziarra of the Association for Islamic Solidarity of Teachers of Senegal (ASIES).
"Solidarity," the foundation of this association bringing together a thousand Tidiane teachers in Senegal, is today a "poor relation," laments the president of ASIES, Ibrahima Guèye.
According to him, "not a day goes by without seeing calls for help on the internet, on TV, on the radio. And people are almost indifferent." Faced with this "culpable silence," "we told ourselves that we had to react, that we had to act in solidarity, in action."
ASIES thus deplored the crisis of values plaguing Senegal. According to Mr. Guèye, "it is up to us to further reflect on the ways and means likely to provide concrete solutions. Public schools used to represent excellence, but today we must refocus them, restore their former glory, and block this erosion of values, this loss of integrity."
The call for stability in the school calendar was also made, on this occasion: "We experienced a frightening crisis, and today we thank Allah, because the bomb has been defused, and we hope that the State will make more efforts, but also that everyone will play their part. There is both generosity from the State and flexibility from the unions."
Hope is still possible, according to the president of ASIES. "The school of Sheikh Al Seydi El-Hadj Malick Sy is a solution. We don't need to look elsewhere because we find everything we need in our religious communities, through the teachings of our scholars, namely education in all its dimensions, religious and Islamic values, and values in general."
In addition to the lively talk at the Serigne Babacar Sy auditorium by Serigne Maodo Sy ibn Serigne Babacar Mansour, with archivist Atoumane Ndiaye Doumbouya as guest, an important panel, under the theme "Islamic solidarity facing the challenges of the contemporary world", was led by Dr Abdoul Aziz Kébé, university professor, and by Dr Abdoulaye Athie, head of the legal and partnerships unit of HAW, with Abdou Aziz Diop, grandson of Mame Maodo, as moderator.
